The Chamber Structure and operation The Chamber of Commerce of Valencia represents the interests of more than 100,000 registered companies. The companies themselves elect the governing bodies - the governing board and the executive committee - for a period of four years. The governing board is the highest governing and representative body of the Chamber. It is made up of representatives of companies from the region along with prestigious businesspeople elected democratically every four years. The governing board endorses the budget, determines the policies of the Chamber and appoints the executive committee and the Chairman. The executive committee is the permanent governing and administrative body of the Chamber. The Chairman is the institution’s top representative and presides over all its related bodies. He is also responsible for implementing its agreements. The working committees are responsible for providing expert opinion and proposals on issues which affect different types of businesses. Each of the committees (Public Works and Town Planning, Environment and Industry, Shipping, Transport and Infrastructure, Foreign Trade and International Relations, Tourism, Domestic Trade, Micro-businesses and Craftwork, Family Businesses, Industrial Estates) meets periodically and provides expert opinion and issues reports which are then subject to the approval of the governing board. The committees therefore directly reflect the feelings and the concerns of companies. These are then passed on to the governing board and to the executive committee, which in turn can transmit the concerns and requirements of business groups to the appropriate authorities. |
